Community Policing

Citizens’ Academy

Our Department’s Citizens Academy is held in partnership with Cuyahoga County Community College.

This program is designed to:

  • Achieve a stronger level of understanding and safely through building relationships with community members and the local police departments.
  • Give the community an in-depth look at what police officers in their city do
  • Offer insights into more aspects of the job.

The Citizens Police Academy consists of 11 consecutive weeks of three (3) hour classes held on the same night each week. It will mirror in as many ways as possible the OPOTA Basic Peace Officer Academy course work. Participants must complete an application, sign a waiver, and also pass a background check for criminal history.

Any questions about enrollment, the process, or what to expect, please contact Detective Taylor at 440-481-3099.

Ride A-longs or Community Events

Our department does offer ride a-long to community members or individuals aspiring for a career in law enforcement. We also hold community events where a police officer can stop by. For more information contact Sergeant Sloan 440-884-1235.
