City of Parma Heights Urban Canopy Enhancement Program
Ever since Mayor Byrne announced his "Greening of Parma Heights" initiative upon taking office in 2010 and we began our "Transportation for Livable Communities- the Greening of Pearl Road Initiative" back in 2013, we have been hearing about our city's tree canopy and how important it is to our community: but our commitment began long before then. Parma Heights been designated a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation since 1990. In fact, our Master Tree Plan and Ordinance was passed in 1965.
Our tree canopy effects:
- our property values
- flooding issues
- the beauty of our
- our health
- and a number of other important issues
In 2020, the city spent $66,636 for the planting, trimming, removal, and other expenses to
support this vital asset to our community.
The entirety of our city lies within the Cuyahoga River Area of Concern and in the Cleveland
Metroparks Secondary Center Ecosite so attention to our canopy is vital not just to our city but
to NE Ohio as well.
